Class of 2006 Update by Scott Dean

This year's class is half way over. We just finished Economic Development Day. The days have bee interesting, fun and educational.

Ropes day was a growth experience for everyone. We challenged ourselves to get out of the comfort zone and test our trust in other class members. History Day was enlightening and entertaining. The rich history in Augusta is a treasure of which we have only scratched the surface. Healthcare Day taought us about the wealth of knowledge that this community possesses that is striving to make us live longer with a better quality of life.

Education Day expressed to us the need for quality education options and how the schools do more than teach our children. Government and Media Day pressed up on us the need to work with each other for the common good. It also showed us that we need to place ourselves in each others shoes to truly understand where we come from and where we are going.

Economic Development Day showed us that there are many entities that work to bring business to our area. There are multiple layers of tentacles that reach out to show off the great assets that our community contains.

Thanks to all of the day chairs, co-chairs and committee members for all their hard work on making each of these days a great experience for the class members.

Update

Destination 2020 is in the Implementation Phase! Teams to work on bringing the vision to reality are being gathered, and the leadership has fallen into place. If you would like to have a role in this process, please contact Angela Hillesland (99) at 650-3203 or info@lexusaugusta.com .

For volunteers with great public speaking skills, a Speaker's Bureau has been formed to share updates on Destination 2020 with the community. All content will be provided. For information on how to join this bureau, or to schedule a speaker for your Civic group, contact Margaret J. Taylor (88)at 868-2200 or margarett@csrafcu.org

Destination 2020 is its own initiative, with support from other entities. It has a diverse, inclusive leadership structure with checks and balances that leverages the strength of each volunteer. The Vision for our community's future is a dynamic, living document. There is an editorial committee set up just for edits to the book as the needs of our community changes and components of the vision are achieved. There is a PR team to keep the public informed of successes and continue to foster broad-scale involvement. The volunteer teams will also be dynamic entities, with changes as people hear of the project, become interested and involved.

Thanks to everyone who is involved now and to all who have participated in the past. We will continue to keep you updated on progress for this initiative, which includes Richmond County , Columbia County and North Augusta . www.destination-2020.com
